WEEKLY PLAN - New Plan - New Week Track

Happy Monday!

Although I knew I would be starting back on the Wii this week, NOTHING motivates you more to shed a few pounds than the possibility of being on television. I had already been on the Wii for my 20 minutes when I checked my music business email. One particular email caught my attention and although I can't give any details until I know more, let me just say that I do NOT want to find out the hard way what they say about the 'camera adds 10 pounds'.

Because I leave for Texas in a couple of weeks I have set my first goal on this new round of the Wii for 6 pounds in 2 weeks. I'll be sharing these screen shots with you at each 2 -week bench mark.

Since I've not been on the Wii since pulling the muscles in my shoulders and collar bone last fall, I wanted to take it easy. I did a total of 20 minutes. I started by warming up on the Wii Fit by doing the soccer practice for two rounds. Then I did the down-hill skiing for two rounds to warm up my legs. From there I moved to my favorite exercise on WiiFit... the step aerobics. I did two rounds each of basic and advanced. I probably should have finished with 2 rounds of basic as a cool-down but I was 20 minutes on the mark so stopped for today. There is always tomorrow.

I also need to weigh on our bathroom scales. There is a difference between the scales and the Wii board. Bob and I will be using the bathroom scales for our challenges. So my signature line will reflect the bathroom scales - not the Wii board weight.

WEEKLY PLAN - Week 1 - Starting from Scratch

A new year, a new plan, a new way of thinking. Sounds good.

And I'm off to a good start. By making sure I include fruit and/ or vegetable into every meal I am down one pound from last Tuesday. Bringing my current weight to 184.

As you'll see on the side bar, I am dropping to only three days a week here. Since I don't have a lot of comments back I'm going with my Monday - Weekly Plan, Friday - Week in Review and then Wednesday will be a recipe share.

I'm getting a lot of what read like really good recipes off Pinterest. So I'm going to start getting them off my Foodies Board and on a plate.I had multiple ideas but every one called for onion. Wouldn't you know, I used my last onion yesterday and like everyone else, we're under a deep freeze and I'm not planning on venturing out at least until the weekend.

So for this week, I'm going the crock pot route: http://foodpinsnow.com/?p=6311
I think I have just enough tortellini in the freezer to do this recipe in half. If not, I guess Wednesday will be a surprise.

Enjoy the Journey!

Biggest Loser Week 1 Begins

Today was the initial weigh-in of our 10-week round of the Biggest Loser challenge at our local mini-grocer. Interesting place for a weight-loss challenge, I know. But it's more of a corner quick grab when you're out of milk, cigs, beer, or need to pick up the weekly gossip.. I mean paper. We are a town of about 600 people. We take our encouragement where we can get it. Tania and Connie are super neat gals who, like many of us, want to get the weight off and think a little camaraderie - and the shot at some spending cash - is a good place to start.

I weighed in this morning at 181.4. I much preferred the 177 my scales showed. I know mine are accurate as I've tested them with the #10 hand weight. So every week I'll post both.

Week 1: 181.4/177

I think my body is sufficiently healed. So my plan for Monday is to get back on the Wii... with the program I had intended to start with before my sinus' had their own plans.

I'll be using the Wii Fit. Doing the stretching, game-type stuff to warm up, then go into the aerobics routine. In the evening I'll play more of the athletic type games like tennis and golf on Wii Sports.

My plan is that once my body is used to activity again, then I'm going to alternate the aerobics stuff with Jillian Michaels' Fitness Ultimatum 2009. I've heard this is a really difficult workout so we shall see. I am going to reward myself with Zumba for the Wii when I've stuck with Jillian for 2 weeks. Based on rumors... wish me luck! In the mean time, I'd love to hear what you think of her workouts. Which ones have you tried. What did or didn't you like about them?

When it comes to eating, one program I've found really helpful in the past is FitDay . With FitDay you can track every aspect of your weight loss journey. You can set a Weight Goal, and the program will help you chart how many calories you can safely consume per day based on your activity level and lose pounds. There is a tab for entering your activity and the length of time you participate and it will tell you how many calories you've burned.

The food log is one of my favorite parts of FitDay. I can keep a daily food diary, create my own food list based on either pre-packaged foods or dishes fixed using my own ingredients. So I don't have to go back and recalculate every time I fix a particular favorite dish. For example, select any meat from a long list, pick your method of cooking for the portion and it will tell you how many calories you will use. It really does matter how it's cooked!

How you feel on any given day, at any particular moment will affect how you eat. FitDay provides a Mood for things such as Happiness, Clarity, Health for each day to help you keep an eye on things that might be triggering you to backslide on your journey.

And finally, a journal. A place for you to dump the garbage that can affect your over-all health, not just your weight loss journey.

The best thing about this program is it is password protected. No one need see any of the information but you.

You can use the FREE version on-line. If you'd like it a bit more handy, you might want to purchase the PC version so you don't have to be on-line or the more portable version for the iPhone. Any way you choose to use this tool, it's one of the best friends you make as you travel towards your GOAL.

Enjoy your Journey!

Week 1 begins!

I weighed in last Friday to begin the next seven weeks of our local BL group. So far there are only eight of us participating... half of what we had last time. I don't know if the prospect of trying to lose weight right here at the holidays is scaring them off or not. I figure if I can lose some weight, I have a bit of wiggle room to enjoy samplings of favorites I only get this time of year without doing too much damage.

This time I'm going to give both weights... the official and (home). So here we go.

Starting: 184.6 (180)

I'm also starting Slim in 6 tomorrow. I'd intended to start today but I've had to be away from the house most of the day and no time to finish clearing the living room to give me space. I'm hoping to at least use the bedroom floor for pilate stretches tonight.

Enjoying the Journey!

A New Week Begins

Today is truly the beginning of this journey.

I've started by eliminating my low-cal fluffy coffee which usually starts my day. It hasn't been as hard as I thought it would be. And don't get me wrong, I'm not giving up my fluffy coffee. It will be my night-time power-writing beverage of choice if I've drank my water for the day. I've also added green tea with honey as my lunch drink.

I'm still planning out my meals. So now is a good time to talk about my plan.

Through lots of reading, TV watching (both infomercials and health shows) I've learned there is a few basic concepts to follow for optimal weight loss and good health.

3 meals and 2 snacks spread evenly throughout the day.
This constantly feeds the body to keep the metabolism in it's peak performance. Think fueling the car at regular intervals during a road trip to keep from running out of gas somewhere along the way.

Low-fat, Lean Protein
Lean meats are just better for you. If you've ever read Dr. Oz's book You On A Diet or seen his TV special documenting what the body looks like on the inside from years of abusive eating, you'll never eat red meat again ... or at least think twice before making it part of every meal.

Now I'm not saying - NO Red Meat. Hey, I'm not giving up a good cheeseburger now and then. But I do want to suggest that it's always best to know where the meat came from and what it's been eating. The earlier onset of puberty and development in young girls (as well as many health issues) are being traced back to the hormones these animals are being fed. Think about it. If the hormones are used to 'bulk up' the cow, what do you think they're going to do to the body consuming it. Okay... not preaching.. just 'food' for thought. :-)

Regardless of what plan you are on, EXERCISE is still a major player in the equation
Even those wonderful weight loss supplements tell you they work in conjunction with a healthy diet and exercise! Exercise pumps blood and oxygen through your body, rejuvenating your whole system so it can breathe better and perform at an optimal level. Exercise will also help to tone up the skin as the weight goes down. It takes time. Find something you enjoy! Exercise shouldn't be a death sentence. But life without exercise can be.

So my plan encompasses all of those things. I first got started on the 3 meals/2 snacks after reading The 3-Hour Diet by Jorge Cruise. His plan is the same as all the other big names out there... he's just putting it in a context people can understand. Eat the foods you enjoy and learn to do it in moderation. There is no 'giving up' (for the most part) as long as you eat Regular Servings.

Tomorrow I'll show you some comparisons in how quantity has changed over the years. Until then...

Enjoy the Journey!
